What is a tide line, really?

A tide line is the visible seam where two water masses meet. One is usually clearer and moving faster, the other carries foam, debris, or a different color. Bait concentrates along that seam because plankton and small prey get pushed together instead of spread out. Fish then patrol the edge rather than the open middle.

The line is a boundary, not a destination. You are reading where water slows, mixes, or piles up food, and that is where feeding is most likely.

Why does foam collect in a line instead of scattering?

Foam and floating debris gather where surface current converges. Two flows meeting, or a current bending around a point, push floating material into a narrow band. That band marks a physical edge in the water, and it often sits directly over structure below.

How does wind change the picture?

Does a tide line always hold fish?
